On Tuesday, March 4, 2024 the Ellendale Fire Company responded to 8 calls.
At 11:34 am crews were alerted to assist the Memorial Fire Company Sta 89 with a brush fire in the 8400 block of Slaughter Beach Road.
While returning from that call, crews were rerouted to a woods fire in the 10000 block of Greentop Road north of Ellendale. Units arrived to find a resident was attempting to burn a stump and the fire had spread to the woods. Crews from Memorial Fire Company of Slaughter Beach, Milton Fire Department Inc. Sta. 85, and Delaware Forest Service assisted.
While returning from that call, crews were rerouted to a grass fire in the 18000 block of Fleatown Road north of Ellendale. Crews arrived and quickly extinguished the fire.
As crews finally returned to the station and began to clean up from the first three fires, the Ellendale Fire Company was alerted to a grass fire at N. Old State Road and Johnson Road in Lincoln. Crews arrived and quickly extinguished the fire.
While returning from that fire, crews were alerted to assist the Carlisle Fire Company with a field fire threatening structures on Valley Forge Road in the City of Milford. Crews responded and assisted with fire attack and protecting homes in the area.
At 17:35 hours crews were alerted for a vehicle fire in the 18000 block of McColleys Chapel Road south of Ellendale. Deputy 75 arrived to find two storage trailers involved, one reportedly filled with paint thinner. Engine 2 placed two 1 3/4” hand lines in service and stretched a 3” supply line down the driveway for fire attack. Crews from Ellendale and Georgetown Fire Company worked together for suppression and overhaul.
While crews operated at the storage trailer fire, Ellendale was alerted for an additional vegetation fire in the 18000 block of Sharons Road in Ellendale.
Finally, shortly after 20:00 hours, crews were alerted for an automatic crash notification in the 14000 block of Staytonville Road.
Units from both the Ellendale and Lincoln City stations responded throughout the day.
