Passing Of Member & Friend, Tom Berry, Sr - E.V.F.D.

It is with our deepest and most sincere regrets to announce the passing of member Tom Berry, Sr. Tom was a very devoted EMT and a valuable asset to our department, he will be missed dearly. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this difficult time. More details will be posted as they become available. Obituary- Thomas W. Berry, 66, of Ellendale, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at home surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born in Richmond, Va., the son of the late Robert Berry and Dorothy (Poole) Hoover. He worked in maintenance at I.L.C. in Frederica for 10 years before having to retire on disability in 2009. Prior to that, Tom worked in the warehouse at Wharton and Barnard in Milford for 20 years. He was a member of the Ellendale Fire Company where he served as an N.R.E.M.T. - B as well as a driver of the brush pieces. In his spare time, he enjoyed collecting everything, working on cars, carpentry and was an avid football and NASCAR fan. Tom was a devout Christian and loved attending church and reading the Bible. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mercy Berry; two sons Thomas Berry II and his wife Jayme and Robert Berry and his wife Amanda, all of Ellendale; five daughters, Donna Handwerk and her husband Randy of Pennsylvania, Tonya "Sissy" Maloney and her husband Robert of Milford, Laura Price of Woodside, Crystal Berry Cole and her husband John of Frederica and Mindy Berry, at home; two brothers, Jerry Berry and his wife Coleen, and Paul "Buddy" Hoover, Jr. and his wife Roxanne, all of Richmond, Va.; three sisters, Barbara Sherman and her husband Arthur of Lincoln, Diane Berry of Kentucky, and Deborah Acors and her husband Stanley of Richmond, Va.; 18 grandchildren and one great-grandson. A Celebration of the Life of Tom Berry with firefighters honors will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at the Ellendale Fire Company Memorial Hall, 302 Main Street, Ellendale. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Ellendale Fire Company, P.O. Box 5, Ellendale, DE 19941. Arrangements by Lofland Funeral Home, Milford.
