House fire on Main St - Main St. Ellendale

At approximately 7:03 a.m. on October 30, 2008, the owner of the residence notified EOC that his house was on fire after he searched for his son. The owner stated he was on the second floor in his son’s bedroom searching for his son until the heat from the flames became unbearable and the smoke made it difficult to breathe. After the owner then called EOC after he exited the residence. Ellendale Fire Department and Medic 101 were alerted for a house fire on Main Street near the railroad tracks with subjects reported trapped. 75 Command (Chief H. Crew) arrived on scene and assumed command with fire showing from the second floor. Chief Howard crew was advised that occupants maybe trapped. Arriving fireman made entry and found fire conditions on the second floor. The fire crew Daryl Trotman, Kyle Perry, and Tom Berry extinguished the fire on the second floor and performed a search. The son that was said to be trapped in the structure was later discovered that he went to school. Georgetown Fire Co. was alerted and responded to assist with the structure fire. Milton Fire Co. was alerted for a standby and upgraded to the scene to assist with overhaul operations. Carlisle Fire Co. was alerted to stand by at Ellendale. Crews remained on scene until 09:35 hours. Three family members were treated for smoke inhalation and were helped by the Red Cross. There were no working smoke detectors in the home. The fire was believed to be from a space heater.
