The Ellendale Fire Company of Ellendale, Delaware, was organized April 1920.
The first equipment of the Fire Company was purchased in 1921 from the Viscoe Silk Company, Marcus Hook, PA, and consisted of a small motor truck (model T Ford) with chemical tank, hose, ladder, buckets, etc., suited for a small community like Ellendale, Delaware. The first truck, though small, paid for itself more than once as it was the cause of saving several buildings.
In 1921 at Laurel, Delaware, the Ellendale Fire Company became a charter member of the Delaware State Firemen's Association.
In 1928 the American La France fire turck was purchased. This was a chemical truck. It was later changed into a pumper including 1000 ft. of hose, 600 ft. of two inch hose, 400 ft. of 1 1/2 inch hose, 150 ft. of booster hose of 1 1/4 inch. The American La France has 500 gallon pump and 300 gallon booster tank.
The Ellendale Fire Company is a charter member of Delmarva Association.
The Fire Company purchased a lot without improvement on Main Street, Ellendale, Delaware in 1923, formerly the site of the old Ellendale School and the old Church.
The meetings of the Ellendale Fire Company were held in the Ellendale Town Hall, until the Ellendale Fire Company purchased the property of David Henry Reed, Main Street, Ellendale, Delaware, and had same remodeled for their fire trucks and equipment.

The Ellendale Fire Company became a charter member of the Sussex County Vol. Firemen's Association. The Ellendale Fire Company is very fortunate in having a member, who is a charter member, and past president of the Sussex County Firemen's Association. This charter member is Curtis W. Ennis, Sr.
In 1938, a tank wagon was purchased to help the rural community as well as the town.
In 1942 a Chevrolet truck chassis was purchased on which was built an auxiliary body by the firemen and included emergency light plant and portable fire pumps. Proper O.C.D. equipment for emergency in war time was also on this truck.
In 1947 the Fire Company of Ellendale decided to install two 3 inch artesian wells for better fire protection for the town and community.
The members of the Ellendale Fire Company decided to remodel and redecorate one half of the second floor of their building on Main Street, Ellendale, Delaware, and make one large room to be used for recreation and meetings.
During the 28 years of service to their fellowman and community, this is the first time the Ellendale Fire Company has had a Ladies' night and observed an anniversary.
