Passing of Life Member Lawrence E. Sammons

It is with our deepest and sincere regrets to announce the passing of Lifetime Member Lawrence Sammons, has answered his last alarm on Wednesday, December 7, 2011. Lawrence was an active member with the Ellendale Vol. Fire Dept. for 74 years. In the past Lawrence has held Treasurer for 49 years, Board of Director, and Treasurer for Sussex County Volunteer Firefighters Association for 58 years. Lawrence you will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.


GEORGETOWN - Lawrence E. Sammons, of Georgetown, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at Harbor Health Care in Lewes. He was 95. Lawrence was born in Ellendale, the son of the late Charles H. and Carrie M. (Clendaniel) Sammons. He worked at DuPont in Seaford in the shipping dept., until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the Mid-Land Grange # 27, Sussex Farm Bureau, M.A.D.D., A.A.R.P., Cheer, Sussex County Women's Democrat Club, Georgetown Volunteer Fire Co., Ellendale Vol. Fire Co. for 72 years, treasurer of the Sussex County Fire Co. for 58 years, Ellendale U.M. Church and he attended the Crossroad Community Church in Georgetown. He was also the treasurer of the Tax Ditch, Maple Marsh and Oakley Branch. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia L. (Messick) Sammons in 2005. He is survived by his children, Louise King of Ellendale, and Maryellen Crowell and her husband Thomas of Shortsville, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Carriellen Beaudreau and her husband Tommy of Washington, D.C., and Sarah Louise Wilder and her husband Mathew of Atlanta, Ga.; and great-grandchildren, Nellie Beandreau of Washington, D.C., August Henry Beaudreau of Washington, D.C., and Thronton Tucker Wilder of Atlanta, Ga. Funeral Services with Fireman honors will be held Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at noon at Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown, where friends may call Monday night from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in McColleys Cemetery, Redden. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your local Fire Dept. or Ellendale U.M. Church, P.O. Box 193, Ellendale, DE 19941 or Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown, DE 19947. Arrangements handled by Short Funeral Services, Georgetown.
