Assisting 85 With a structure fire
CEDAR CREEK ROAD (212) & REYNOLDS ROAD (231)
AT 0716 HOURS MILTON FIRE DEPT WAS DISPATCHED TO A WORKING STRUCTURE FIRE ON CEDAR CREEK ROAD (212) & REYNOLDS ROAD (231) AT THE INTERSECTION. AS CHIEF LYNN ROGERS & OTHER FIRE PERSONNEL EXITED THEIR HOMES RESPONDING THE FIRE WAS VISIBLE IN THE SKY TO THE NORTH OF TOWN. HEAVY BLACK SMOKE WAS IN THE AIR. CHIEF ROGERS RESPONDED IN THE 85 COMMAND VEHICLE. UPON THE ARRIVAL, CHIEF ROGERS ADVISED SUSSEX EOC HE WAS ON SCENE ESTABLISHING 85 COMMAND WITH A TWO STORY CUSTOM HOME UNDER CONSTRUCTION HEAVILY INVOLVED IN FIRE THROUGHOUT ALONG WITH A CONSTRUCTION DUMPSTER AND THE WOODED AREA. ENGINE 85-4 WAS FIRST ENGINE ON THE STREET WITH AT CREW OF 5, LADDER 85 WITH A CREW OF 4, ENGINE 85-5 WITH A CREW OF 4, TANKER 85 WITH A CREW OF 2, RESCUE 85 WITH A CREW OF 4, ENGINE 85-3 WITH A CREW OF 4, AMBULANCE 85 WITH A CREW OF 2 AND UTILITY 85 WITH A CREW OF 2. 85 COMMAND GIVE THE FIRE POLICE THE ORDER TO SHUT DOWN THE ROAD IN ALL DIRECTIONS. 85-18 KENNY TERHUNE WAS ASSIGNED 85 OPERATIONS AND CHIEF HOWARD CREW ASSISTED WITH WATER SUPPLY. SUSSEX COUNTY PARAMEDIC UNIT 101 WAS ADVISED TO SET UP ON THE NORTH END OF THE FIRE GROUND ALONG WITH EMS 85. 85 COMMAND ADVISED 85-4 TO STOP SHORT AND ATTACK WITH 2 LINES AND FOR LADDER 85 TO BACK IN AT CENTER OR THE STRUCTURE OFF ROUTE 212, CEDAR CREEK ROAD. 85 COMMAND ADVISED SUSSEX EOC TO HAVE STATION 89 TO TANKER / ENGINE ASSIST AND TO GET ANOTHER RIT TEAM AND TO ALSO GET A COVER-UP COMPANY FOR STATION 85. ADDITIONAL TANKER COMPANIES WERE SUMMONED. 85 COMMAND CONTACTED MILTON QUICK STOP UPON ARRIVAL TO PREPARE FOOD, 6 DOZEN SANDWICHES AND COFFEE WERE ORDERED. DEB / JANE BRENEMAN WAS ASSIGNED THE TASK OF GETTING THE FOOD COORDINATED TO THE COVER-UP, FIRE POLICE AND THE FIRE GROUND. UTILITY 85, WILLIAM HENRY SMITH AND DJ HUGHES PICKED-UP THE FOOD AND DELIVERED IT TO THE FIRE SCENE. TANKER 85 WAS ADVISED TO SUPPLY ENGINE 85-4 AND ENGINE 85-3 WAS ADVISED TO SUPPLY ENGINE 85-5 ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE FIRE GROUND. TANKER 75 (ELLENDALE) WAS NEXT ON SCENE AND SUPPLIED LADDER 85 ALONG WITH MILFORD UNITS AND OTHER ASSISTING DEPARTMENT’S ENGINES. TANKER 85 ORIGINALLY SUPPLIED LADDER 85 UNTIL TANKER 89 ARRIVED AND A SWITCH OVER WAS MADE SO TANKER 75 WAS THE UNIT PUMPING INTO LADDER 85. THE MASTER STREAM FROM LADDER 85 WAS PLACED IN SERVICE WITH THE NOZZLE PLACED AT THE TIP OF THE FLY. 550 GALLONS OF WATER FLOWING IS WHAT LADDER 85 FLOWED. ENGINE 85-5 ATTACKED FROM THE REYNOLDS POND ROAD SIDE. ALL OTHER UNITS SUPPLIED THE TANKERS 85 & 89. THE STRUCTURE COLLAPSED INTO THE FULL BASEMENT. SHUTTLE ENGINES FILLED AT STATION 85, LEWES FIRE PERSONNEL ON COVER-UP ASSIGNMENT HANDLED THE SHUTTLE TASKS AT STATION 85. FIRE MARSHAL FM-17 WILLIAM GOINS WAS ON SCENE CONDUCTING THE INVESTIGATION. AT 0755 HOURS 85 OPERATIONS OFFICER 85-18 ADVISED 85 COMMAND THE SCENE WAS UNDER CONTROL. 85 COMMAND, CHIEF ROGERS PLACED THE SITUATION UNDER CONTROL AT 0756 HOURS WITH ALL UNITS FROM ALL DEPARTMENTS WORKING FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. THE SHUTTLE OPERATION CONTINUED AS LADDER 85 CONTINUED TO DELUGED THE DEBRIS OF THE STRUCTURE. AT 0911 HOURS 85 COMMAND ADVISED SUSSEX EOC THAT UNITS WOULD BEGIN RETURNING WHEN READY.
